Oh So Close!

Tumpane Boys Baseball Team Finishes in Second Place!

The Tumpane Boys Baseball team came very close to winning the TDSB West Division Baseball Tournament at Broad Acres Public School. The boys lost a very close championship game to Daystrom Public School 3-1. The team finished the tournament with a record of 4 wins and just the 1 loss. Mr. Harvey is very proud of how the team played, the boys dedication to practice and the development all players showed over a very short period of time. The team did win a “Finalist” banner to hang proudly in our gym for years to come!

A special thanks goes out to Mr. Bannister who helped coach the boys this year and was a very important part of the team’s success.

Sport Update

Girls Softball Champions

The Tumpane girls’ softball team won the TDSB West Championship with a thrilling 1-0 defeat of George R Gauld Public School in the final game of their tournament on October 6th 2014. This was only our schools second year ever entering the softball tournament and the first time for most of our players. The team regularly attended morning practices and all their hard work paid off.   In their victory the team showed great heart and superb sportsmanship.

Also, a special thank-you to Mr. Bannister who helped coach the team this year. Our championship banner is on display just outside the gym for everyone to see.

Way to go girls!

Mr. Harvey

Tumpane Co-Ed Soccer Team Wins Third Consecutive Family of Schools Championship

A co-ed soccer team of Grade 4 and 5 students won our schools third Family of Schools Soccer Championship in a row. During the tournament held on October 9th at Blacksmith P.S, the team played 4 games. They went undefeated and did not allow a single goal scored against. They had victories over Downsview, Shoreham, Calico and Blacksmith public schools to capture the first place trophy. A plaque will be back on display in the front foyer to recognize their win and keep the title at Tumpane for at least another year.

Well done team!

Mr. Harvey

Tumpane Cross Country Runners at Etobicoke Centennial Park

The Tumpane Cross Country team ran their races on October 2nd 2014 at Etobicoke Centennial Park. Students in Grade 3-5 participated in the long distance races and showed great determination in completing the very difficult course. With each race consisting of anywhere from 200-300 students our students faired quite well in their results. The team was very dedicated in attending practice and their training helped improve their stamina. With only a month to prepare for the very long running event this is often not very easy to do. Coaches Haye and Harvey were very proud of all our runners!!!!!

Terry Fox Run

Tumpane students collected over $ 600 for cancer research during our annual Terry Fox Run at Tumpane P.S. Classes brought in their money and ran for 30 minutes each outside in our school yard to see who could run the farthest. Each class did their best but in the end there were two clear winners. For the Primary division the winning class was Ms. Campagna and on the junior side of the school the winners were from Mlle.Given.

The event was a great success, the students had fun but most important we raised a lot of money for a very good cause. Be very proud of yourselves Tumpane community.

Mr. Harvey and Ms. Bair

Our Rose…

Rose James had passed away after a battle with health issues for quite some time.

This is a very sad moment for Tumpane, as Rose was an integral part of our school community for a very long time. She had built great connections with our staff, students and parents and put her job first in so many occasions.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones during this difficult moment.

May she rest in peace and know that she was very much loved.
