Jazz at Tumpane!

2014-05-16 10.29.30Tumpane staff and students were treated to a wonderful jazz concert by the Humber School of Creative and Performaning Arts. Humber College and Jazz FM 91.1 partnered together with TDSB to bring jazz into our schools.

The band consisted of Humber College students ranging from first to third-year of studies, and they performed a wide range of melodies from the history of jazz: from blues to  R & B, from Motown to conetmporary hits.

Thanks to Mr. Bellotto for organizing the concert for our school

Welcome To Kindergarten Night

On Thursday, May 1, Tumpane held it’s annual Welcome to Kindergarten night.  We invited and met many of the new JK families that will be starting school in September of 2014.
Families got to meet the Kindergarten team, the school administration, support staff and all the agencies represented that evening.  Some of the agencies represented included the Public Health, Hincks Dellcrest, Doorsteps Neighbourhood Place, Tumpane Childcare Centre and the Toronto Public Library.  We also had our school settlement worker and TDSB Community Support worker on hand to meet and talk with parents.
The Kindergarten team shared information with families about how to get their child ready for school, preparing them socially, emotionally and academically.  Later, students got to visit various learning centres and experience some of the materials that they would see in their future Kinergarten classes.
At the end of the evening, familes received a wonderful gift bag full of materials they could take home and use together in the summer, to help prepare for Kindergarten.  The success of the evening was due to the hard work of many individuals, so thank you to everyone who came and participated on Thursday.

math_clipartTumpane students, parents and staff all took part in a school-wide, Math-based learning opportunity last week. Each class prepared a specific math experience to share with the rest of the school. Students participated in each classroom for the afternoon, while some students were leaders responsible for demonstrating their understanding of the math experience and learning goal. We hope everyone had a fantastic day!

Tumpane Jumps Rope For Heart!

boy-30456_640Students recently brought home their pledge form for our annual JUMP ROPE FOR HEART CAMPAIGN.  Over the last two year our school has raised over $2300 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

We are looking to continue our success by having students collect donations from friends and family over the next couple of weeks.  All pledges are due to the school by May 9th when we will be holding our “Jump Rope for Heart Event”outside at the school.

All students will receive a free skipping rope for taking part in this event and additional prizes will be given out depending on what funds the student raises.  Don’t forget that donations can also be made on-line (please read the instructions on your pledge form carefully for registration instructions).  Any questions, please contact Mr. Harvey.

Let’s raise more than ever this year Tumpane!!!!
